Israel’s Deceptive Masquerade — Dissecting a Narrative of Lies
Ever since the declaration of war from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, mainstream media has flooded with calls of support and unity for both Palestine and Israel. Widespread condemnation had instantly arose against Hamas’ estimated launch of 2200–5000 missiles and their ensuing violence, where media organizations and politicians were quick to hop on board the show of worldwide solidarity for the ‘nation showered with shock attacks.’ Predictably, the media lacked the same sharp disapproval for crimes against Palestinians, with the blatant disregard for the subsequent terrorizing Israeli ‘response’ on Gaza.As it currently stands, the Israeli army has ordered the more than 1 million Palestinians residing in Gaza’s northern half to evacuate south in preparation for an anticipated ground offensive (Al-Jazeera). Israel has demanded for the people to expel their homes within 24 hours, a time frame that the UN considers to be insufficient. An estimated death toll of Palestinians has exceeded 1500, with 6600 people reported injured and over 260,000 expected to have fled their homes. On the Israeli side, approximately 1300 are dead with over 3000 wounded.Gaza has been under a strict inhumane land, sea, and air blockade that has remained solidified since the initial siege by Israel and Egypt in 2007. During this time, Israel has enforced a stiffly fortified perimeter consisting of a heavy military presence with unrestricted surveillance of civilians. An enormous repercussion of the siege, especially for the Gazans, is the rapid increase of the population living in poverty. According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, nearly 30 percent of Palestinians currently experience poverty, a number that is even worse for the Gaza Strip in which half of all residents are impoverished. This consequently highlights the appalling impacts the illegal blockade had even before the current escalation of terror.
